Lighting a Tented Wedding: A Peek Inside Two Stunners!
Today we give you not just one, but two spectacular tented weddings. As you can imagine, lighting a tented wedding is very different from a hotel ballroom or a backyard. For one thing, the lighting has to be installed on the tent's infrastructure. Also, the power into the tent has to be strategically mapped to provide power not only to lighting, but also to back up generators and also to other concerns in the tent.
But that's what you have professionals like us, who have been lighting every type of wedding imaginable for decades! All you have to worry about is how gorgeous our lighting will make you and your wedding look!
LIGHTING A TENTED WEDDING: RECEPTION AND AFTER-PARTY
The first tented wedding we're focused on in this article took place at Hummingbird Nest Ranch in Simi Valley California, and was a brilliant illustration of what a difference lighting can make!
The four-day installation of this beautiful clear-top tent and the reception within took a team who came ready with their A-game! Our Sr. Lighting Designer, Ray Thompson created a dramatic lighting scheme within the tented wedding reception and an opulent disco-themed after-party.

LIGHTING A TENTED WEDDING RECEPTION: A STUNNER!
Renu said yes to Ajay’s proposal of marriage following a romantic helicopter ride over Los Angeles. When they called wedding coordinator Alicia Townsend of Details Details, she knew this was a couple that liked to fly high and she would have to deliver a wedding that soared above and beyond expectations. She did not disappoint!
She assembled her A-Team at the Terranea Resort in Rancho Palos Verdes for a host of wedding celebrations, beginning with the Sangeet, Mehndi, Baraat, and wedding and the reception and farewell brunch.
Our team was brought in to light the Sangeet (which took place in the ballroom), and the wedding reception which took place on the property in a tent. Led by lighting designer Lonnie Thompson, our lighting team timed installation with the tent swagging, hiding any cables and power.
