If anyone can manifest a white Christmas Eve in Los Angeles, it’s Kim Kardashian. Kim hosted the family’s annual Christmas Eve party and turned her home into a decked-out winter wonderland just for the occasion.
A mix of real and fake snow covered the mini evergreen forest in her backyard, which led guests to a cozy pop-up ski lodge where the main party happened. Inside, there was a candy shop full of holiday treats, a ball pit, a stuffed animal workshop, a beignet bar, a hot dog on a stick stand, a Coca-Cola drink bar, and more. The vibe wouldn’t have been complete without Babyface, Tank, and Wanyá Morris who joined a string quartet to perform a medley of holiday classics. [via Poosh magazine]
Lighting Designer Ray Thompson was on site for four days installing the event lighting. To create the effect of a starry sky indoors, the main tent was covered with an LED star drop. It was gorgeous but created an added a small challenge to the lighting.
"Because the star drop covered all hanging points in the ceiling, and I couldn't cut into it to get to the tent structure, I had to get creative when installing all the small fixtures to light areas such as Santa Claus and the gingerbread house," Ray says. "To create an invisible structure, we installed cables pulled tight across the ceiling and affixed our fixtures to that."
The overall lighting was a warm amber texture inside and out. For contrast, Ray and the team uplit the flocked Christmas trees in bright white.
Inside one of the tent areas, a huge tree had been created by the talented design team. "To give the tree even more dimension, we lit the room in a warm amber breakup pattern." Ray says.
And, last but definitely not least, the Images team was outside on the snow hill adding a beautiful blue light. Kim Kardashian glowed as she was captured taking a slide down it.
Joy was what this evening was all about and we were thrilled to shine our light on it!
